Marginalized populations around the world are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. Due to systemic discrimination and structural inequities, LGBTQ+ and racialized communities experience ongoing health disparities amid unstable housing, employment discrimination, low income, barriers in healthcare access, harassment, and violence. Globally, 70 countries still criminalize consensual same-sex sexual acts between adults.
To address substantial gaps in the pandemic response, we are rapidly mobilizing with global research partners to implement a community-engaged, peer-delivered online intervention (#SafeHandsSafeHearts) with diverse LGBTQ+ populations to reduce risk and promote wellbeing in the pandemic—in India, Thailand, and Canada.
